#1 West Coast Road Trip – Welcome to California – Arrival

The time has come, after all the planning and preparation it was time to get on a plane. I was not looking forward to the 11 hour flight, but se la vie. Getting to Heathrow in London is quite easy – I used the Elizabeth line and got the airport 2 hours before my flight. I had no luggage to check in, so had plenty of time to go through security.

Flight itself was uneventful. I flew with Virgin Atlantic Economy Class, quite comfortable, service was great. Turned out I have seen everything offered by in flight entertainment system, so had to rely on pre-downloaded movies and TV shows on my iPad. Not a big deal, but I did not manage to get any sleep, so by the time I arrived to San Francisco I was spent. Nevertheless I have forced myself to stay awake as long as possible. Took the metro from Airport to the City, checked in to my hotel and went for a walk. Metro system is was very clean and made the journey from the airport a breeze. I did not manage to figure out tickets, so had to use the Apple Wallet Travel Cards, by searching for Clipper, San Francisco. once that was sorted, I topped up the card and boarded the train. My hotel was called Marines’ Memorial Club & Hotel Union Square, it was located centrally and it was about 10 min walk from Powell station. Nothing fancy, but it was clean, affordable, and with a gym/swimming pool.

For my walk I have decided to check off one of items and that was to see Lombard Street. It took me about 30 min to get there by foot. Weather was great, sun was shining, and I was determined not to sleep yet. It is a cute place, but way overcrowded. Everyone wanting to drive through, walk through, and take a picture.

After Lombard Street I checked the map and it turned out that I was close to the water, Fisherman’s Wharf, so went there. I was getting quite peckish when a massive In-N-Out Burger Sign popped up on the horizon. I have never tried it before, so headed inside. Ordered a cheeseburger and fries and I must say, I was not impressed, 6/10. The weather was great so I continued west, towards Golden Gate Bridge. I have heard that it is covered by clouds/fog a lot of the time, but I had to see it for myself. Everything around me looked magical, even the fog. As expected I did not see anything and decided to head back in to the hotel, to get some z’s.
